SFI Control Relay Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Hyundai Accent. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: When applying direct battery voltage, ensure voltage is applied to correct terminal to prevent relay damage.
  1. Remove SFI control relay. Relay is located under left side of instrument panel, near fuse/relay block. Apply battery voltage across relay terminals No. 2 (negative) and No. 4 (positive). See Fig 1 . Using ohmmeter, check continuity between terminals No. 1 and 5. Continuity should exist until voltage is disconnected.
  2. Reapply battery voltage between terminals No. 2 and 4. Check continuity between terminals No. 3 and 5. Continuity should exist until voltage is disconnected. Replace relay if it fails any test.
