DTC P0501: Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Malfunction: Notes
NOTE:
On Elantra, VSS is a reed switch built into the speedometer. A rotating magnet opens and closes the reed switch 4 times for every rotation of the speedometer cable sending a pulsed signal to the ECM and TCM. Vehicle speed is calculated by the ECM and TCM. On Tiburon, VSS is installed on the end of a shaft driven by a transaxle gear. For every shaft revolution a 4 pulsed signals are sent to ECM, TCM and the speedometer.
