Knock Sensor

The Knock Sensor (KS) is mounted on engine block. Sensor detects knocking condition/vibration from engine. The KS is a piezo electric element that converts vibration into a voltage signal which is then sent to the ECM. The ECM compares KS and rough road (acceleration) sensor inputs to detect true engine knock. If the ECM determines that true engine knock is occurring, the ECM will retard timing until knock is suppressed.
