Traction Control System

In traction control mode, when drive wheel speed exceeds a given amount, the HECU determines that the drive wheels are slipping and outputs a signal to reduce engine power.

The TCS system uses ABS system self-diagnostic system and fail-safe system to aid in servicing. When system detects a malfunction, HECU disables traction control and allows normal braking only. System then stores a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) and illuminates TCS warning light. DTCs are retrieved for diagnosis through use of a HI-SCAN (PRO) or generic scan tool. See DIAGNOSIS & TESTING  . TCS control system operational modes are:

  1. Driving Control

When drive wheel exceeds vehicle speed by a specified amount, the HECU judges that the drive wheels are slipping, and outputs the traction control signal to reduce power.
  2. Rough Road Control

Based on signals from the wheel sensors, the HECU detects a rough road based on frequency of wheel rotational vibration, The HECU then signals the TCS control valve actuator and Engine Control Module (ECM) to reduce engine power, improving acceleration efficiency.
  3. Grip Control

Based on readings of individual wheel speeds, the HECU determines the amount of tire grip on the road and signals TCS power control valve actuator and ECM to reduce engine power if necessary.
