Inspection Procedures

  1. PROBLEM VERIFICATION
    1. Connect a Hi-Scan (Pro) to the data link connector.
    2. Turn ignition switch to ON position and monitor FTPS voltage signals.
    • Specification: approximately 2.5V at idle

      Is voltage within specification?

    No: Go to next

Yes: Problem is intermittent or was repaired and engine control module memory was not cleared. Proceed with INTERMITTENT PROBLEM PROCEDURE  .

  2. VISUALLY CHECK FTPS FOR CONNECTOR CONDITION
    1. Thoroughly check the FTPS for loose, bent, corroded, contaminated, deteriorated or damaged connectors.

    Is any problem present?

    No: Go to next

    Yes: Repair or replace it.

  3. CHECK REFERENCE VOLTAGE TO FTPS
    1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position and disconnect the FTPS connector.
    2. Turn ignition switch to ON position and measure the voltage between terminal 1 of the FTPS harness connector and chassis ground.

    • Specification: approximately 5V

      Is voltage within specifications?

    Yes: Go to next

No: Repair open or short to ground in harness.

  4. CHECK FOR SHORT TO GROUND IN HARNESS
    1. Disconnect ECM connector.
    2. Measure resistance between terminal 3 of the FTPS harness connector and chassis ground.
    3. Measure resistance between terminals 3 and 2 of the FTPS harness connector.

    • Specification: infinite

    Does each resistance indicate open?

    Yes: Go to next

No: Repair short to power in harness.

  5. CHECK FTPS FOR NORMAL PARAMETERS AGAIN
    1. Connect the ECM and FTPS connectors and turn ignition switch to ON position.
    2. Using the Hi-Scan (Pro) monitor FTPS voltage signals.
    • Specification: approximately 2.5V at idle

      Is voltage within specification?

    Yes: Replace FTPS.

Yes: Proceed with ECM PROBLEM PROCEDURE  .
