Removal And Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal from the battery.
  2. Remove the air bag module.
    WARNING: The SRS is designed to retain enough power to deploy the air bag for about 30 seconds even after the battery has been disconnected, so serious injury may result from unintended air bag deployment if service is done on the SRS immediately after the battery cable is disconnected.   3. Remove the steering wheel lock nut and the washer.
  4. Mark the steering column shaft and steering wheel for fitting positions used for re-installation using the special tool. Remove the steering wheel.
    NOTE: Do not use hammer on the steering wheel to remove it.

  5. Remove the steering column lower and upper shroud.

  6. Remove the side lower crash pad.
    1. Remove the hood release cable.
    2. Remove the parking brake release lever.
    3. Disconnect the switch connectors from the switch plate.

  7. Disconnect the connectors and remove the multifunction switch.

  8. Remove the ignition switch (key box) from the steering column.
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal.
