DESCRIPTION
Occupant Classification System is designed to detect a properly-seated right front occupant and determine if the passenger's frontal airbag should be enabled (may inflate) or not. The system continuously monitors the occupant status and can change the classification decision if there is a change in occupant status.
This bulletin provides the procedure to reset the system's electronic control unit (referred to as "PODS ECU" on the GDS display screen) using the GDS tool. The PODS ECU (which is different from the main SRS Control Module) needs to be reset under the two conditions noted below:
- To erase diagnostic codes relating to the PODS ECU.
- To reset the PODS ECU after replacing the front passenger seat cover or seat cushion assembly.

The following procedures are to be followed to erase the PODS ECU diagnostic codes and for PODS ECU resetting.
- Connect the GDS VCI module to the vehicle's DLC connector and open the GDS program.
- Turn on vehicle ignition and make sure the green power LED is lit on the VCI; if it is not lit press on the power button of the VCI. Within a few seconds, the GDS screen should indicate VCI:USB On in bright blue to the left of the VIN button on the screen.
