Repair Procedures: Installation

  1. Set the front tires straight-ahead.
  2. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  3. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery and wait for at least three minutes before beginning the work.
  4. Connect the clock spring harness connector and horn harness connector to the clock spring.
  5. Assemble the neutral state clock spring.
    NOTE:
    • New clock spring is supplied with neutral pin (A) inserted.
    • Remove the neutral pin (A) after assembling the clock spring on to the steering wheel.

  6. If the neutral pin is removed or when re-assembling the clock spring after removal, set the clock spring back to neutral by following below steps.
    1. Turn the clock spring clockwise until it stops.
      NOTE: Do not turn the clock spring counter-clockwise all the way to the end when it is not assembled.

    2. When it comes to a stop, turn it counter-clockwise and align the neutral mark (>< ).
      NOTE: Be sure to check the neutral position setting rotation count since it varies per channel.

      NOTE: Be sure to check the neutral mark position since it varies per channel.

  7. Install the steering wheel column shroud and the steering wheel.

    (Refer to Steering System - "MDPS ASSEMBLY ")

  8. Install the steering wheel.

    (Refer to Steering System - "REPAIR PROCEDURES ")

  9. Connect the Driver Airbag (DAB) module connector and horn connector, and then install the Driver Airbag (DAB) module on the steering wheel.
  10. Install the driver airbag module.
  11. Connect the battery negative cable.
  12. After installing the airbag, confirm proper system operation:
    • Turn the ignition switch ON; the SRS indicator light should be turned on for about six seconds and then go off.
    • Make sure horn button works.
