4-Cylinder Ignition Timing
- Start engine, and warm to normal operating temperature. Operate engine for 2 minutes at 2000 RPM under no-load. Perform self-diagnostic procedure, and check for smooth engine operation. See the TESTS W/CODES
article. Repair or replace components as needed. If okay, go to next step.
- Turn engine off. Disconnect throttle position sensor connector. Start engine and snap throttle to 2000-3000 RPM, 2 or 3 times, under no-load and then allow engine to return to idle.
- Connect timing light to cylinder No. 1 spark plug cable. Check ignition timing. See IGNITION TIMING table. If necessary, adjust timing by loosening distributor mounting bolts and turning distributor. With ignition timing correctly set, check idle speed and mixture. See IDLE MIXTURE

. Reconnect throttle position sensor connector.
