Pulsed Secondary Air Injection: Notes
Pulsed Secondary Air Injection (PAIR) is controlled by PAIR valve and PAIRC-solenoid valve. PAIR valve sends secondary air to exhaust manifold using vacuum created by exhaust pulsation. Reed valves prevent secondary air from being sent back to air cleaner when exhaust pressure is greater than atmospheric pressure. The ECM switches PAIRC-solenoid valve in response from inputs from TPS and CTS. PAIRC-solenoid valve allows vacuum to open PAIR valve at idle and on deceleration. During acceleration, solenoid is energized, preventing vacuum from opening PAIR valve.
