Check Power Steering Control Unit For Proper Operation

  1. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and power steering control unit connector terminal No. 1 (Brown wire). See Fig 1 . Voltage should be 12 volts. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, repair ignition power circuit for open or short circuit.
  2. Disconnect solenoid valve connector. Solenoid valve is attached to steering gear. Measure resistance between solenoid valve connector terminals. See Fig 2 . Resistance should be 4-6 ohms. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace solenoid valve.
  3. Ensure power steering control unit connector is properly connected. Check if heavy steering operation occurs during stationary turns. If heavy steering operation occurs during stationary turns, replace power steering control unit.
