Mode I (LAN Communication)

  1. This mode checks the communication between the Body Control Module (BCM) and each Local Control Unit (LCU). If a malfunction is detected, indicator lights will flash a 2-digit trouble code. See LAN COMMUNICATION TROUBLE CODES  table.
  2. To enter on-board diagnostic Mode I, turn ignition off. Ensure shift lever is in "P" position. Set power window lock switch in OFF position. Ensure all doors are closed. Set interior light switch in "O" position.
  3. Turn ignition on. Turn ignition off, and then repeatedly press rear defogger switch more than 10 times in 10 seconds. Self-diagnostic indicator lights should come on. Turn ignition switch to ON position when indicator lights come on. Indicator lights should come on for 2 seconds and then go off for 2 seconds.
  4. System is now in on-board diagnostic Mode I. Indicator lights will start flashing any communication-related trouble codes present in system. The first and second digits of the trouble code are flashed separately. Code will be flashed in 5-second intervals. Count the number of flashes to identify trouble code. A one-second pause separates the first and second digits of trouble code. See Fig 1 .
  5. To exit diagnostic mode, turn ignition off. Diagnostic mode is automatically canceled if left unattended for 10 minutes after trouble codes are retrieved.
