Ignition Timing
- Ensure that no Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are present. See TESTS W/CODES
article. Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Turn ignition off. Connect tachometer to check connector. Check connector is located on right rear corner of engine compartment, near automatic transmission dipstick.
- Remove No. 1 or No. 6 ignition coil. Connect No. 1 or No. 6 ignition coil and No. 1 or No. 6 spark plug with a high tension wire. Using insulating tape, enlarge coil end of high tension wire to fit tightly into coil.
- Connect conductive timing light to high tension wire. Start engine and allow to idle. Check ignition timing. See IGNITION TIMING table. If ignition timing is incorrect, loosen camshaft position sensor mounting bolts. Adjust timing by turning camshaft position sensor.
