Circuit Check Between VDC/TCS/Abs Control Unit & Steering Wheel Angle Sensor (A/T With VDC/TCS, I35)

NOTE: For self-diagnosis results, see SCAN TOOL USAGE in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - I35 & MAXIMA article.

  1. Self-Diagnosis Result Check No. 1

Check the self-diagnosis results. See Fig 1 . If any other items are indicated other than what is indicated in self-diagnosis results, repair or replace affected items. If no other items are indicated other than what is indicated in self-diagnosis results, go to next step.
  2. Check harness and connectors between VDC/TCS/ABS control unit and steering angle sensor. Turn ignition switch "OFF" and disconnect negative battery terminal. Disconnect VDC/TCS/ABS control unit connector and steering angle sensor connector. Check harness between VDC/TCS/ABS control unit connector (B57), see Figure under CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION, and steering angle sensor connector (M218) for open and short circuit. See Figure and Fig 2 . Check connectors for control unit and steering angle sensor. Check connector housing for disconnected, loose, bent and/or collapsed terminals. If all results are okay, go to next step. If all results are not okay, repair disconnected harness or poorly connected connectors, then go to next step.
  3. Self-Diagnosis Result Check No. 2

Connect connectors to control unit and sensor. Connect negative battery terminal, and turn ignition switch "ON". After erasing self-diagnosis result, start engine to perform self-diagnosis again. See SELF-DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS MODE in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - I35 & MAXIMA article. If only "ST ANGLE SEN COM CIR" is indicated in the self-diagnosis results, replace the spiral cable (with the steering angle sensor) and adjust the neutral position of the steering angle sensor. See NEUTRAL POSITION STEERING ANGLE SENSOR (I35)  under ADJUSTMENTS. If "ST ANGLE SEN COM CIR" is not the only thing indicated in the self-diagnosis results, go to next step.
  4. CAN communication system check. Check "CAN DIAG SUPPORT MNTR" of the data monitor items. See Fig 3 . For data monitor items, see DATA MONITOR MODE in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - I35 & MAXIMA article. After printing monitor items, See Figure .
