Description & Operation: Notes
Cruise control system consists of the Automatic Speed Control Device (ASCD) control unit, ASCD actuator, and various control switches and sensors. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . ASCD control unit controls cruise control system operation based on inputs from speedometer, brakelight switch, inhibitor relay (A/T), ASCD clutch switch (M/T) and ASCD steering wheel switch. ASCD control unit also signals Automatic Transmission (A/T) control unit when to cancel overdrive operation.
ASCD actuator controls the throttle drum, via ASCD cable, based on signals from ASCD control unit. ASCD actuator consists of vacuum motor, air valve and release valve. The fail-safe mode monitors system for malfunctions. If a malfunction is detected, fail-safe mode will deactivate ASCD operation, and CRUISE indicator light will flash in 0.4 second intervals. Certain malfunctions are stored in memory and can be retrieved for diagnosis using Nissan's CONSULT scan tool. Other scan tools can be used, but may have limited functions.
