Preliminary Checks
NOTE:
Verify customer complaint by operating the system on a road test. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage. Inspect for blown fuses and damaged relays. For fuse and/or relay identification refer to illustrations. Inspect for a loose or corroded connections, damaged wiring harnesses and/or switches. Check for a broken or partially broken wire inside insulation, which could cause system malfunction but prove good in a continuity/voltage check with system disconnected. Ensure any aftermarket electronic equipment is properly installed.
- Ensure brake fluid level is correct. Add fluid if necessary. Check for leaks at actuator brakeline connections. If no leaks exist, go to next step. If any leaks exist, tighten brakelines and recheck. Replace actuator or brakelines as necessary.
- Inspect mechanical condition of conventional brake system, including brake booster and component adjustments. See DISC article. Repair or adjust brake system as necessary. Go to next step.
- Check for loose battery cables or poor connections. Check battery and charging system for proper operation. Repair as necessary. Go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. If ABS light, TCS OFF light and SLIP light turn on, go to next step. If ABS light, TCS OFF light or SLIP light do not turn on, repair appropriate circuit. See SYSTEM TESTS .
- Start engine. If ABS light, TCS OFF light or SLIP light turn off after one second, go to next step. If ABS light, TCS OFF light or SLIP light remain on, perform self-diagnostics. See SELF DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM .
- Drive vehicle at 20 MPH or more for at least one minute. If ABS light, TCS OFF light and SLIP light remain off, go to next step. If ABS light, TCS OFF light or SLIP light turns on, perform self-diagnostics. See SELF DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM .
- With engine running, turn TCS OFF switch to ON and OFF positions. If TCS OFF light turns on and off respectively, system is okay. If TCS OFF light does not turn on and off respectively, check TCS OFF switch circuit. See SYSTEM TESTS .
