DTC Confirmation Procedure
NOTE:
Perform PROCEDURE FOR MALFUNCTION "A" first. If the DTC cannot be confirmed, perform PROCEDURE FOR MALFUNCTION "B". If confirmation procedure has been previously conducted, always turn ignition switch to OFF position and wait at least 10 seconds before conducting the next test.
Procedure For Malfunction "A" (Using CONSULT-II Or GST)
- Turn ignition switch to ON position.
- Select DATA MONITOR mode on CONSULT-II or GST.
- Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
- Run engine for at least 10 seconds at idle.
- If DTC is detected, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . If DTC is not detected, system is okay at this time.
NOTE:
If engine will not start or stops soon, wait at least 10 seconds with engine stopped (ignition switch in ON position) instead of running engine at idle. The CONSULT-II or GST can be used for this procedure.
Procedure For Malfunction "B" (Using CONSULT-II)
- Turn ignition switch to ON position.
- Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature. If engine cannot be started, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE .
- Select DATA MONITOR mode.
- Check the voltage of MAS A/F SE-B1 under DATA MONITOR. See Fig 1.
- Increase engine speed to about 4000 RPM.
- Monitor the linear voltage rise in response to engine speed increases. If okay, go to next step. If not okay, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE .
- Maintain the conditions shown for at least 10 consecutive seconds. See Fig 2.
- If DTC is detected, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . If DTC is not detected, system is okay at this time.
Overall Function Check - Malfunction "B" (Using GST)
- Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
- Select MODE 1.
- Check the mass airflow sensor signal with MODE 1.
- Check for linear mass airflow sensor signal value rise in response to increases to about 4000 RPM.
- If NG is displayed, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE .
NOTE:
Use this procedure to check the overall function of the mass airflow sensor circuit. During this check, a 1st trip DTC might not be confirmed.
