Overall Function Check

Use this procedure to check the overall function of the fuel level sensor function. During this check, a 1st trip DTC might not be confirmed.

WARNING: Always relieve fuel pressure before disconnecting any fuel injection-related component. DO NOT allow fuel to contact engine or electrical components. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article.

Using CONSULT-II

NOTE: If it is possible to confirm that the fuel cannot be drained by 7 7/8 gallons in advance, begin at step  11.
  1. Prepare an approved fuel container and a spare hose.
  2. Release fuel pressure from fuel lines. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article.
  3. Remove the fuel feed hose on the fuel level sensor unit.
  4. Connect a spare fuel hose where the fuel feed hose was removed.
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position and wait at least 10 seconds, then turn ignition switch to ON position.
  6. Select FUEL LEVEL SE in DATA MONITOR mode.
  7. Check FUEL LEVEL SE output voltage and record results.
  8. Select FUEL PUMP in ACTIVE TEST mode.
  9. Touch ON and drain about 7 7/8 gallons from fuel tank.
  10. Fill fuel into the tank.
  11. Check FUEL LEVEL SE output voltage and record results.
  12. Check FUEL LEVEL SE output voltage and confirm whether the voltage changes more than 0.03 volts during steps  711. If NG is displayed, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE .
