Overall Function Check
Use this procedure to check the overall function of the fuel level sensor function. During this check, a 1st trip DTC might not be confirmed.
WARNING:
Always relieve fuel pressure before disconnecting any fuel injection-related component. DO NOT allow fuel to contact engine or electrical components. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES
article.
Using CONSULT-II
- Prepare an approved fuel container and a spare hose.
- Release fuel pressure from fuel lines. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article.
- Remove the fuel feed hose on the fuel level sensor unit.
- Connect a spare fuel hose where the fuel feed hose was removed.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position and wait at least 10 seconds, then turn ignition switch to ON position.
- Select FUEL LEVEL SE in DATA MONITOR mode.
- Check FUEL LEVEL SE output voltage and record results.
- Select FUEL PUMP in ACTIVE TEST mode.
- Touch ON and drain about 7 7/8 gallons from fuel tank.
- Fill fuel into the tank.
- Check FUEL LEVEL SE output voltage and record results.
- Check FUEL LEVEL SE output voltage and confirm whether the voltage changes more than 0.03 volts during steps 7- 11. If NG is displayed, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE .
NOTE:
If it is possible to confirm that the fuel cannot be drained by 7 7/8 gallons in advance, begin at step 11.
Using GST
- Prepare an approved fuel container and a spare hose.
- Release fuel system pressure from fuel lines. See FUEL PRESSURE RELIEF in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article.
- Remove the fuel feed hose on the fuel level sensor unit.
- Connect a spare fuel hose where the fuel feed hose was removed.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position.
- Drain about 7 7/8 gallons from fuel tank.
- Confirm that the fuel gauge indication varies.
- Replace 7 7/8 gallons of fuel previously drained
- Confirm that the fuel gauge indication varies.
- If NG is displayed, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . If NG is not displayed, system is okay at this time.
