DTC Confirmation Test (Using Generic Scan Tool)

NOTE: Use the following test to check overall function of cooling fan. During this test, 1st trip DTC may not be confirmed.
WARNING: Never remove radiator cap when engine is hot. Serious burns could result. Wrap a thick cloth around cap. Carefully turn a quarter turn to allow pressure to escape. Then turn cap all the way off.
  1. Check the coolant level in the reservoir tank and radiator. If coolant level is okay, go to next step. If the coolant level in the reservoir tank and/or radiator is below the proper range, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  .
  2. If customer added coolant, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  . If customer did not add coolant, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect engine coolant temperature sensor harness connector. Connect a 150 ohm resistor to engine coolant temperature sensor harness connector.
  4. Start engine. Cooling fan should operate at a higher speed than low speed. If operation is as specified, system is okay at this time. If operation is not as specified, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  .
