DTC Confirmation Test (Using Generic Scan Tool)
NOTE:
Use the following test to check overall function of cooling fan. During this test, 1st trip DTC may not be confirmed.
WARNING:
Never remove radiator cap when engine is hot. Serious burns could result. Wrap a thick cloth around cap. Carefully turn a quarter turn to allow pressure to escape. Then turn cap all the way off.
- Check the coolant level in the reservoir tank and radiator. If coolant level is okay, go to next step. If the coolant level in the reservoir tank and/or radiator is below the proper range, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE .
- If customer added coolant, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . If customer did not add coolant, go to next step.
- Disconnect engine coolant temperature sensor harness connector. Connect a 150 ohm resistor to engine coolant temperature sensor harness connector.
- Start engine. Cooling fan should operate at a higher speed than low speed. If operation is as specified, system is okay at this time. If operation is not as specified, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE .
