DTC Confirmation Test (Using Generic Scan Tool)

NOTE: Use the following test to check overall function of cooling fans. During this test, 1st trip DTC may not be confirmed.
  1. Allow engine to cool. Check coolant level in radiator and reservoir tank. If coolant level is okay, go to next step. If coolant level is low, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  .
  2. If coolant was filled by customer, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  . If coolant was not filled by customer, go to next step.
  3. Start engine. Set temperature control lever to full cold position. Turn A/C and blower on. Let engine idle for a few minutes with A/C operating.
  4. Cooling fans should operate at low speed. If cooling fans operate as specified, go to next step. If cooling fans do not operate as specified, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  .
  5. Turn ignition off. Turn A/C and blower off. Disconnect ECT sensor harness connector. See Figure . Connect a 150 ohm resistor between ECT sensor harness connector terminals. Start engine.
  6. Cooling fans should operate at high speed. If cooling fans operate as specified, system is okay at this time. If cooling fans do not operate as specified, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  .
