Assembly (1)

    CAUTION:
    • Apply ATF to manual shaft oil seal.
    • Do not reuse manual shaft oil seal.

  1. As shown below, use a drift (commercial service tool phi22) to drive manual shaft oil seal into the transmission case until it is flush.
  2. Install detent spring and spacer in transmission case.

  3. Assemble manual shaft, manual plate, and parking rod after installing manual shaft to transmission case.
  4. Install retaining pin into the manual plate and manual shaft.
    1. Fit pinhole of the manual plate to pinhole of the manual shaft with a pin punch.
    2. CAUTION:
      • Drive retaining pin to 2+/-0.5 mm over the manual plate.
      • Do not reuse retaining pin.
    3. Use a hammer to tap the retaining pin into the manual plate.

  5. Install retaining pin into the transmission case and manual shaft.
    1. Fit pinhole of the transmission case to pinhole of the manual shaft with a pin punch.
    2. CAUTION:
      • Drive retaining pin to 5+/-1 mm over the transmission case.
      • Do not reuse retaining pin.
    3. Use a hammer to tap the retaining pin into the transmission case.

  6. CAUTION: Apply petroleum jelly to O-ring.

  7. Install terminal cord assembly in transmission case.
  8. Install terminal cord assembly connectors in bracket.

  9. CAUTION: Do not reuse O-rings.
  10. Install O-rings in servo assembly.

    Apply petroleum jelly to O-rings.

  11. Install return spring in servo assembly.
  12. Install servo assembly in transmission case.

  13. Using snap ring pliers, install snap ring in transmission case.

  14. CAUTION:
    • Do not reuse lip seal and lathe cut seal ring.
    • Apply petroleum jelly to lip seal.
    • Apply ATF to D-ring.

  15. Install lip seal and D-ring in reverse brake piston.
  16. Install reverse brake piston in transmission case.

  17. CAUTION:
    • Do not reuse seal rings.
    • Apply petroleum jelly to seal rings.

  18. Install seal rings in drum support.
  19. CAUTION: Apply petroleum jelly to needle bearing.

  20. Install needle bearing in transmission case.
  21. CAUTION: Securely assemble them using a flat-bladed screwdriver so that snap ring tension is slightly weak.

  22. After installing the return spring and spring retainer in transmission case, use a clutch spring compressor to install snap ring in transmission case.
  23. Install reverse brake retaining plate, drive plate, driven plate and dish plate in transmission case.

  24. Assemble N-spring.

  25. Install snap ring in transmission case.

  26. Measure clearance between retaining plate and snap ring. If not within specified clearance, select proper retaining plate.
    1. Specified clearance "A": 
    2. Standard: 0.7 - 1.1mm (0.028 - 0.043 in) 
    3. Retaining plate: Refer to " REVERSE BRAKE  ".

  27. Install return spring in parking pawl.

  28. Install parking pawl and pawl shaft in output shaft & companion flange complement.

  29. Install parking actuator support in output shaft & companion flange complement.

  30. CAUTION: Be careful not to mistake front for rear because both sides looks similar. (Thinner end is front side.)

  31. Install intermediate shaft in transmission case.
  32. Install revolution sensor in transmission case.

  33. CAUTION: Apply petroleum jelly to needle bearing.

  34. Install needle bearing in transmission case.
  35. CAUTION: Complete remove all moisture, oil and old sealant, etc. From the transmission case and output shaft & companion flange complement mounting surfaces.

  36. Apply recommended sealant (Genuine Anaerobic Liquid Gasket or equivalent. Refer to "RECOMMENDED CHEMICAL PRODUCTS AND SEALANTS ".) to output shaft & companion flange complement as shown in illustration.
  37. Install output shaft & companion flange complement in transmission case.

  38. CAUTION: Do not reuse self-sealing bolt.

  39. Tighten output shaft & companion flange complement mounting bolts to specified torque. (Because terminal bracket is tightened together with output shaft & companion flange, it should be installed before procedure 27.)
    1. Output shaft & companion flange complement mounting bolt: 52 N.m (5.3 kg-m, 38 ft-lb) 
    2. Self-sealing bolt : 61 N.m (6.2 kg-m, 45 ft-lb) 
  40. CAUTION: Make sure that drum support edge surface and direct clutch inner boss edge surface come to almost same place.

  41. Install direct clutch assembly in transmission case.
  42. CAUTION: Apply petroleum jelly to needle bearing.
  43. Install needle bearing in high and low reverse clutch drum.
  44. CAUTION: Be sure to replace high and low reverse clutch and mid sun gear as a set.

  45. Install high and low reverse clutch assembly in transmission case.
  46. Using a flat-bladed screwdriver, range the drive plate.

  47. Install mid sun gear assembly in transmission case.

    CAUTION: Check that portion A of high and low reverse clutch drum protrudes approximately 2 mm (0.08 in) beyond portion B of rear sun gear.

  48. CAUTION: Apply petroleum jelly to needle bearing.

  49. Install needle bearing in rear carrier assembly.
  50. CAUTION: Apply petroleum jelly to bearing race.
  51. Install bearing race in rear carrier assembly.
  52. Install rear carrier assembly in transmission case.

  53. CAUTION: Apply petroleum jelly to needle bearing.

  54. Install needle bearing (rear side) in mid carrier assembly.
  55. CAUTION: Apply petroleum jelly to needle bearing.

  56. Install needle bearing (front side) in mid carrier assembly.
  57. Install mid carrier assembly in transmission case.

  58. Install front carrier assembly in transmission case. (With input clutch assembly and rear internal gear.)

  59. CAUTION:
    • Do not reuse seal rings.
    • Apply petroleum jelly to seal rings.

  60. Install seal rings in input clutch assembly.
  61. CAUTION: Do not reuse band servo anchor end pin.

  62. Install band servo anchor end pin and lock nut in transmission case.
  63. CAUTION: Assemble it so that identification to avoid incorrect installation faces servo side.

  64. Install brake band in transmission case.
  65. CAUTION: Apply ATF to front sun gear bushing and one-way clutch end bearing.

  66. Install front sun gear in transmission case.
  67. CAUTION: Apply petroleum jelly to needle bearing.

  68. Install needle bearing in front sun gear.
  69. Adjust brake band tilting using clips so that brake band contacts front sun gear drum evenly.

  70. Adjust brake band.
    1. Loosen lock nut.
    2. Tighten band servo anchor end pin to specified torque.
      1. 5.0 N.m (0.51 kg-m, 44 in-lb) 
    3. Back of band servo anchor end pin three turns.
    4. While band servo anchor end pin, tighten lock nut to specified torque.
