DTC Confirmation Test (Using CONSULT-II)

NOTE: Use the following test to check overall function of fuel level sensor circuit. During this test, 1st trip DTC may not be confirmed.
  1. Release fuel system pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE under FUEL SYSTEM in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article. Remove fuel feed hose from fuel level sensor/pump unit located behind access cover, under rear seat.
  2. Connect a length of fuel hose to fuel feed port at fuel level sensor/pump unit. Turn ignition off and wait at least 10 seconds. Turn ignition on. Select FUEL LEVEL SE in DATA MONITOR mode with CONSULT-II. Check FUEL LEVEL SE output voltage and note it.
  3. Select FUEL PUMP in ACTIVE TEST mode with CONSULT-II. Press ON and drain about 7.93 gals. (30L) of fuel, then press OFF. Fill tank with drained fuel.
  4. Check FUEL LEVEL SE output voltage. Voltage should change 0.03V or more during draining and refilling. If voltage is not as specified, check fuel level sensor. For testing procedure, see appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If problem is found, replace fuel level sensor. After repair, repeat appropriate DTC confirmation procedure. If voltage is as specified, system is okay at this time.
