Test Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Grand Am and 2002 Oldsmobile Alero. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Perform diagnostic system check for malfunctioning system. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK INDEX  .
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under driver side of instrument panel. Using scan tool, select DISPLAY DTCS function and retrieve any BCM DTCs. If DTC B1000 is retrieved as a current DTC, go to next step. If no DTCs are retrieved, system is okay at this time.
  3. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After replacing BCM, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate vehicle through conditions which set DTC. If DTC resets, go to step  2 . If DTC does not reset, system is okay at this time.
