Diagnostic Test

  1. START

    CAUTION:

    Note that the engine starts automatically when starting the Idle Air Volume Learning during engine stop control.

    With CONSULT 

    GO TO STEP 2  .

    Without CONSULT 

    GO TO STEP 8  .

  2. PRECONDITIONING-1

    G-20 With CONSULT

    1. Turn ignition switch ON.
    2. Select "HV BATTERY LEVEL" in "DATA MONITOR" mode of "EV/HEV".
    3. Check "HV BATTERY LEVEL" data monitor item indication.

    Is the "HV BATTERY LEVEL" indicating 50% or more?

    YES 

    GO TO STEP 3  .

    NO 

    1. Charge the Li-ion battery.
    2. GO TO STEP 3  .
  3. PRECONDITIONING-2

    G-20 With CONSULT

    1. Select "COOLANT TEMP/S" in "DATA MONITOR" mode of "ENGINE" using CONSULT.
    2. Check "COOLANT TEMP/S" data monitor item indication.

    Is the "COOLANT TEMP/S" indicating a temperature between 70°C and 100°C?

    YES 

    GO TO STEP 4  .

    NO 

    1. Adjust Engine coolant temperature between 70°C and 100°C.
      NOTE:

      When warm engine up to normal operating temperature, perform INSPECTION MODE 5. Refer to DESCRIPTION .

    2. Turn ignition switch OFF.
    3. GO TO STEP 4  .
  4. PERFORM ACCELERATOR PEDAL RELEASED POSITION LEARNING

    Perform Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning.

    GO TO STEP 5  .

  5. PERFORM THROTTLE VALVE CLOSED POSITION LEARNING

    Perform Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning. Refer to DESCRIPTION .

    GO TO STEP 6  .

  6. PERFORM VALVE TIMING ADJUSTMENT

    Perform Valve Timing Adjustment. Refer to DESCRIPTION .

    GO TO STEP 7  .

  7. PERFORM IDLE AIR VOLUME LEARNING

    G-20 With CONSULT

    1. Set the vehicle to READY.
    2. Make sure that all of the following conditions are satisfied.
      • Li-ion battery charging status: 50% or more
      • Engine coolant temperature: 70 - 100°C (158 - 212°F)
      • Battery voltage: More than 12.9 V (At idle)
      • Selector lever: P or N
      • Electric load switch: OFF

        (Air conditioner, headlamp, rear window defogger)

      • Steering wheel: Neutral (Straight-ahead position)
      • Vehicle speed: Stopped
      • Transmission: Warmed-up (Drive vehicle for 10 minutes.)
    3. Select "IDLE AIR VOL LEARN" in "WORK SUPPORT" mode of "ENGINE" using CONSULT.
    4. Touch "START".
      NOTE:

      The engine starts automatically.

    5. Wait 20 seconds at idle.

    Is "CMPLT" displayed on CONSULT screen?

    YES 

    GO TO STEP 14  .

    NO 

    GO TO STEP 15  .

  8. PRECONDITIONING-1

    G-21 Without CONSULT

    1. Turn ignition switch ON.
    2. Check "Assist/charge gauge" in combination meter.

    Is the "Assist/charge gauge" indicating battery power 50% or more?

    YES 

    GO TO STEP 9  .

    NO 

    1. Charge the Li-ion battery.
    2. Turn ignition switch OFF.
    3. GO TO STEP 9  .
  9. PRECONDITIONING-2

    G-21 Without CONSULT

    1. Perform INSPECTION MODE 5.
    2. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
    3. Turn ignition switch OFF.

    GO TO STEP 10  .

  10. PERFORM ACCELERATOR PEDAL RELEASED POSITION LEARNING

    Perform Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning.

    GO TO STEP 11  .

  11. PERFORM THROTTLE VALVE CLOSED POSITION LEARNING

    Perform Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning. DESCRIPTION .

    GO TO STEP 12  .

  12. PERFORM VALVE TIMING ADJUSTMENT

    Perform Valve Timing Adjustment. DESCRIPTION .

    GO TO STEP 13  .

  13. PERFORM IDLE AIR VOLUME LEARNING

    G-21 Without CONSULT

    NOTE:
    • It is better to count the time accurately with a clock. 
    • It is impossible to switch the diagnostic mode when an accelerator pedal position sensor circuit has a malfunction. 
    1. Make sure that all of the following conditions are satisfied.
      • Li-ion battery charging status: 50% or more
      • Engine coolant temperature: 70 - 100°C (158 - 212°F)
      • Battery voltage: More than 12.9 V (At idle)
      • Selector lever: P or N
      • Electric load switch: OFF

        (Air conditioner, headlamp, rear window defogger)

      • Steering wheel: Neutral (Straight-ahead position)
      • Vehicle speed: Stopped
      • Transmission: Warmed-up (Drive vehicle for 10 minutes.)
    2. Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
    3. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch ON and wait 3 seconds.
    4. Repeat the following procedure quickly five times within 5 seconds.
      1. Fully depress the accelerator pedal.
      2. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
    5. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal for approx. 20 seconds until the MIL stops blinking and illuminates.
    6. Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the MIL illuminates.
    7. Set the vehicle to READY.
    8. Wait 20 seconds.

    GO TO STEP 14  .

  14. CHECK IDLE SPEED AND IGNITION TIMING

    1. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
    2. Let it idle for 20 seconds.
    3. Rev up the engine two or three times and make sure that idle speed and ignition timing are within the specifications. Refer to IDLE SPEED and IGNITION TIMING .

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES 

    INSPECTION END

    NO 

    GO TO STEP 15  .

  15. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART-1

    Check the following

    • Check that throttle valve is fully closed.
    • Check PCV valve operation.
    • Check that downstream of throttle valve is free from air leakage.

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES 

    GO TO STEP 16  .

    NO 

    Repair or replace malfunctioning part.

  16. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART-2

    Engine component parts and their installation condition are questionable. Check and eliminate the cause of the incident.

    It is useful to perform "TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS - SPECIFICATION VALUE". Refer to DESCRIPTION .

    If any of the following conditions occur after the engine has started, eliminate the cause of the incident and perform Idle Air Volume Learning again:

    • Engine stalls.
    • Erroneous idle.
