Overheat Protection Function
The overheat protection function protect the engine and catalyst from damage caused by overload heat.
The overheat protection function performs following controls.
- Characteristics map-dependent ignition timing adjustment towards retard angle direction, as of a coolant temperature at approximately 90 deg.C (194 deg.F) and the ambient temperature at 20 deg.C (68 deg.F)
- Reduced opening of the throttle valve actuator
- Shortening of the injection time of the fuel injectors according to the lower air mass
- Full opening of the ball rotary valve in coolant thermostat
If the coolant temperature is too high, a warning message is shown in the information display on the combination meter. To do this, the ECM sends a corresponding signal via CAN to the electronic ignition lock control unit and CAN to the combination meter.
