Steering System: Description

NOTE: Stylus MANUAL rack and pinion is removed and replaced using same procedure as power rack and pinion assembly. See POWER RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. For overhaul and repair of manual rack and pinion, see illustration under OVERHAUL . See Figure .

The belt-driven pump mounts on the front of the engine. The reservoir is remote mounted. Hydraulic pressure for power-assist is produced by a rotary valve, vane type pump assembly. The pump draws fluid from the reservoir and supplies it to the valve assembly. The rotary valve in the pump valve assembly supplies pressurized fluid to the rack piston.
