Installation Procedure

  1. Install the wheel speed sensor ring using the J 45860  (1) and the J 8092  (2). See Special Tools .
  2. Drive the wheel speed sensor ring into the axle housing until the tool bottoms against the tube.

  4. Install the axle shaft bearing using the J 23690  (1) and the J 8092  (2). See Special Tools .
  5. Drive the axle shaft bearing into the axle housing until the tool bottoms against the tube.

  7. Install the axle shaft seal using the J 21128  . See Special Tools .
  8. Drive the tool into the bore until the axle shaft seal bottoms flush with the tube.
  9. Install the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement .
  10. Install the rear axle housing cover. Refer to Rear Axle Housing Cover and Gasket Replacement (8.0/8.6 Inch Axle) or Rear Axle Housing Cover and Gasket Replacement (9.5 Inch Axle) .
  11. Install the rear wheel speed sensor. Refer to Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement .
  12. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  13. Fill the rear axle. Refer to Rear Axle Lubricant Replacement (8.0/8.6 Inch Axle) or Rear Axle Lubricant Replacement (9.5 LD Inch Axle) .
  14. Lower the vehicle.
