Description And Operation: Overview: Notes
The vehicle is fitted with an engine compartment fire suppressant system. The system contains:
- A fire detection cable in the engine compartment.
- A FIRE switch on the covert options switchpack.
- A cylinder in the luggage compartment.
- A distribution system in the engine compartment.
- A fire control module in the luggage compartment.
The fire detection cable is attached to the underside of the hood. The cable consists of two separate steel conductors, which are insulated from each other by a heat-sensitive polymer casing. The conductors are monitored by the fire control module. If the temperature in the engine compartment reaches 180 °C (356 °F) the polymer casing melts, causing the conductors to contact each other and create a short circuit.
The FIRE switch is a red push switch for manual activation of the fire extinguisher. A transparent hinged cover is installed on the switch to prevent accidental operation. When the switch is pressed it connects a ground to the fire control module.
