Cold Start Thermostat Capsule: Removal

  1. Clamp and remove coolant lines from cold start capsule. Remove one capsule retaining bolt. Replace it with a threaded rod (6mm dia. x 70 mm long).
  2. Install and tighten nut onto threaded rod. Remove other capsule retaining bolt. Replace it with a duplicate threaded rod. Install and tighten nut onto second threaded rod.
  3. Alternately loosen the 2 nuts. After tension is released remove nuts completely. Separate rear capsule housing from bracket. Remove retaining nut, thermostat capsule and "O" ring from housing.
