Overdrive Support: Disassembly

  1. Check piston operation by placing overdrive support on direct clutch drum. See Figure . Apply compressed air through overdrive support feed hole. Ensure piston moves smoothly and does not bind.
  2. Remove overdrive support from direct clutch drum. Remove front race, thrust bearing, rear race and clutch drum thrust washer from overdrive support. See Figure . Using press and Spring Compressor (7537), compress piston return spring. Remove piston snap ring.
  3. Place overdrive support on direct clutch drum. See Figure . Apply compressed air through overdrive support feed hole and remove piston from overdrive support. Remove and discard seal rings and "O" rings.
