Pretest Inspection
Before proceeding with diagnosis, the following precautions must be followed:
- Vehicle must have a fully charged battery and functional charging system.
- When testing voltage or continuity at any control module, use terminal side and not wire end. DO NOT probe a wire through insulation.
- Always start at SYMPTOM ID TEST 1A , IDENTIFYING VEHICLE EQUIPMENT & SYSTEM PROBLEMS under BODY CONTROL COMPUTER TESTS. Starting with any other test may result in incorrect results.
- Only perform test steps indicated. It is not necessary to perform all steps in a test.
- The VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS should only be used when instructed to do so by another test.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position before disconnecting or connecting components.
- Use extreme care when connecting or disconnecting wiring during testing to prevent accidental grounding or shorting.
- Unless instructed to do so in test steps, DO NOT use a test light in place of a voltmeter.
- Always disconnect scan tool after use.
- Always disconnect scan tool before charging battery.
- Always perform appropriate VERIFICATION PROCEDURE after repairs are made.
NOTE:
Before proceeding with diagnosis, certain precautions must be followed. See PRETEST INSPECTION
under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
Diagnostic test procedures are designed to detect system faults as quickly as possible. Body control computer system diagnostic fault messages are accessed through Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Chrysler's Diagnostic Readout Box (DRB) scan tool or generic scan tool, is used to access information from DLC.
A 1996 diagnostic program cartridge, scan tool, body diagnostics cable, jumper wires, and digital volt/ohmmeter will be needed for testing. Proceed to SYMPTOM ID TEST 1A , IDENTIFYING VEHICLE EQUIPMENT & SYSTEM PROBLEMS under BODY CONTROL COMPUTER TESTS.
