Test 15A - Bus Short To Ground

  1. Ensure ignition switch is in RUN position. Backprobe jumper wire between terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 5 (Black/Orange wire) on DLC connector. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, repair open Black/Orange wire.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM). PCM is located at right corner of firewall. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace PCM. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Compass/Mini-Trip Computer (CMTC) module. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace CMTC. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) head connector. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace ATC head. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace instrument cluster circuit board. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Vehicle Information Center (VIC). Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace VIC. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect CCD radio. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace radio. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
  8. Turn ignition off. Disconnect memory seat module. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace memory seat module. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
  9. Turn ignition off. Disconnect driver door module. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace driver door module. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
  10. Turn ignition off. Disconnect passenger seat module. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace passenger door module. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
  11. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace BCM. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
  12. Turn ignition off and wait 5 minutes. Disconnect Air Bag System Control Module (ABSCM). ABSCM is located under center console. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace ABSCM. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
  13. Disconnect scan tool from DLC. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (Violet/Brown wire) on DLC connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Violet/Brown wire for short to ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, go to next step.
  14. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 11 (White/Black wire) on DLC connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair White/Dark Green wire for short to ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, replace scan tool cable or scan tool as necessary.
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagrams, refer to WIRING DIAGRAMS  . After each repair, perform TEST VER-1A  .
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
