Test 2B - No Response From Air Bag Control Module
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage on voltage input side of fuse No. 4 socket. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open ignition switch output circuit. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off and wait 2 minutes. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance on component side of fuse No. 4 socket. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, go to step 5). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Disconnect Air Bag System Control Module (ABSCM) connector. ABSCM is located under center console. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance on component side of fuse No. 4 socket. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair fused ignition switch output circuit for short to ground. Replace fuse No. 4.
- Replace fuse No. 4. Go to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article for further testing.
- Turn ignition off and wait 2 minutes. Disconnect Air Bag System Control Module (ABSCM) connector. ABSCM is located under center console. Using external ohmmeter, measure between terminal No. 1 (Dark Blue/White wire) on ABSCM connector and component side of fuse No. 4 socket. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open circuit between junction block and ABSCM. Replace open fuse. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Connect ABSCM connector. Turn ignition on. Replace fuse No. 4. Go to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article for further testing.
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For wiring diagrams, refer to WIRING DIAGRAMS
. After each repair, perform TEST VER-1A
.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
