Check Engine Indicator Not Operating Properly

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Possible Causes are:

  1. Turn the ignition from the Lock to the Run position. This will start the MIL indicator bulb check. Did the Check Engine indicator illuminate for approximately 4 seconds and then go out? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace the instrument cluster. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST VER 1  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  2. Using the DRBIII(R), read ENGINE DTC's. Are there any PCM DTC's present? If yes, diagnose and repair driveability problem. See SYMPTOMS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST VER 1  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, test is complete.
