PLUG, Glow: Removal: Removal

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. Remove engine cover.
  3. Remove the four retainers and the engine silencer.
  4. Loosen clamp and disconnect air tube from air control valve.
  5. Remove the serpentine belt. Refer to BELT, Serpentine, Removal .
  6. Disconnect the positive battery cable.
  7. Remove the battery.
  8. Remove the generator. Refer to GENERATOR, Removal .
  9. Remove bolt securing high pressure feed tube at intake manifold.
  10. Raise and secure the vehicle. Refer to Hoisting, Standard Procedure .
  11. Remove the belly pan.
  12. On 4x4 models, remove the front axle. Refer to Removal .
  13. Remove fuel rail. Refer to RAIL, Fuel, Removal or RAIL, Fuel, Removal .
  14. Disconnect glow plug wiring harness (2) at all four glow plugs (1).
    CAUTION:

    After plug removal, do not bend, knock, or drop the glow plugs while handling (any mechanical impact may damage the glow plug).

  15. Use a socket to loosen all the glow plug(s). After loosening, attach a flexible tool such as a rubber hose to remove glow plug from cylinder head.
