SERVICE INFORMATION

NOTE: Revised to add 2.0L and 2.2L KL models and 2.0L-MT ECO Turbo Diesel engine for BU models.

MODELS

2015-2016 (BU) Jeep® Renegade 

NOTE: This campaign applies only to the above vehicles equipped with a 1.6L ECO Turbo Diesel engine (sales code EJK)  and 2.0L ECO Turbo Diesel engine (sales code EBT)  built from August 06, 2014 through September 19, 2016 (MDH 080600 through 091900)  .

2016-2017 (KL) Jeep® Cherokee 

NOTE: This campaign applies only to the above vehicles equipped with a 2.0L I4 Turbo Diesel Engine (sales code EBS)  and 2.2L I4 Turbo Diesel Engine (sales code EBV)  built through September 28, 2016 (MDH 092817)  .
IMPORTANT: Some of the involved vehicles may be in dealer new vehicle inventory.  Dealers should also consider this requirement to apply to used vehicle inventory and should perform this campaign on vehicles in for service. Involved vehicles can be determined by using the VIP inquiry process.

SUBJECT

The Engine Control Module (ECM) on about 85,000 of the above vehicles requires updated Euro 6 calibrations with new data sets to improve emission performance in real driving conditions.

REPAIR

The Engine Control Module (ECM) must be reprogrammed.

SPECIAL TOOLS

The following special tools are required to perform this repair: 

SERVICE PROCEDURE

WARNING: Before updating the software, perform a Scan Report and save a copy for further investigations
  1. Using wiTECH, updated to the latest software release, access the vehicle view (Fig. 1), select ECM (Engine Control Module) (A) and reprogram the engine control module.
    NOTE: The vehicle battery must be in full charge conditions or supported by a battery charger/booster battery so as to ensure a rated voltage of 12 V during reprogramming.
    NOTE: If the reprogramming process is interrupted/aborted, it must be restarted.

    IMPORTANT: Carefully read and perform all the instructions and warning messages displayed during reprogramming; do not continue with the following messages without performing what is required at each step.
  2. At the end of the programming procedure, reset all errors (DTC) which may have been generated in other modules as a result of the programming shown on the All DTCs tab (B) (Figure 1).
    WARNING: After updating the software, perform a vehicle Scan Report and save a copy for further investigations.
  3. For 2016-2017 KL vehicles, perform Steps 4 through 7.
  4. Using wiTECH, perform the "Restore BCM PROXI Configuration". Go to the "Vehicle Preparations" tab found on the "Vehicle View"' home page, click on "Restore BCM PROXI Configuration" then follow the screen prompts.
  5. Using wiTECH, perform the "PROXI Configuration Alignment". Go to the "Vehicle Preparations" tab found on the "Vehicle View"' home page, click on "PROXI Configuration Alignment" then follow the screen prompts.
  6. Close the procedure, shut off the ignition, close all doors, unplug the wiTECH, and wait for the bus to go to sleep. After the bus is asleep, wait two minutes then reconnect the wiTECH to the vehicle and run the "PROXI Configuration Alignment" procedure again to see the new PROXI status of all the Electronic Control Units (ECUs).
  7. Clear any DTCs that may have been set in all modules due to reprogramming.

COMPLETION REPORTING AND REIMBURSEMENT

Claims for vehicles that have been serviced must be submitted on the DealerCONNECT Claim Entry Screen located on the Service tab. Claims submitted will be used by FCA to record Customer Satisfaction Notification service completions and provide dealer payments.

Use the following labor operation number and time allowance:

DEALER NOTIFICATION

Regional offices will receive an electronic list of involved vehicles.  The Vehicle List is arranged by Dealer code and in Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) sequence. The lists are for Dealer reference in arranging for service of involved vehicles.

OWNER NOTIFICATION AND SERVICE SCHEDULING

All involved vehicle owners should be notified of the service requirement by their Dealer. Owners are requested to schedule appointments for this service. A sample copy of the owner notification letter is attached.

VEHICLE LISTS, GLOBAL RECALL SYSTEM, VIP AND DEALER FOLLOW UP

All involved vehicles have been entered into the DealerCONNECT Global Recall System (GRS) and Vehicle Information Plus (VIP) for dealer inquiry as needed.

GRS provides involved Dealers with an updated  VIN list of their incomplete  vehicles. Completed vehicles are removed from GRS within several days of repair claim submission.

Dealers should perform this repair on all unsold vehicles before retail delivery.  Dealers should also use the VIN list to follow up with all owners to schedule appointments for this repair.

Over the past months, the issue of diesel engine emissions has been the subject of great debate, particularly in Europe where diesel engines are more widespread and where the public opinion is focusing on the matter of emission performance measurement in conditions which reflect real driving conditions more closely.

FCA intends to react to this change and is adopting a proactive approach by updating calibrations in matter of emissions to ensure a prompter adaptation to the RDE standard which is currently being drafted and is expected to come into force in 2017.

For this reason, FCA has decided to upgrade Euro 6 calibration with a new data set to improve emission performance in real driving conditions. This operation is voluntary and is not a recall campaign.

Since this operation, which as we stress is not a recall campaign, also concerns your vehicle, we are inviting you to take your vehicle to the Dealership you bought it from or, if more convenient for you, to any other Jeep Authorised Service point, referencing to this letter.

The operation will be carried out as quickly as possible and free of charge for you.
