Sensor, Particulate Matter: Removal

- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE
.
- Disconnect the Particulate Matter (PM) sensor wire harness connector (4).
- Disconnect the PM sensor module wire harness from retainer (2).
- Remove nuts (3) and the PM sensor module (1).
- Remove retainers (2) and slightly pull down on exhaust heat shield (1) to expose wire.
- Using a six sided crow foot, remove the PM sensor (1) from the Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR).
- If the PM sensor fails to loosen use a torque wrench set to 160 N.m (118 ft. lbs.) and loosen PM sensor (1).NOTE:
DO NOT use a torch as a heat source.
- If the PM sensor is still not loose after applying 160 N.m (118 ft. lbs.), then use a heat gun to the PM sensor boss for 1 minute at 450° C (842° F).
