Sensor, Knock: Removal: 3.6L

NOTE:

The forward sensor (1) is known to the powertrain control module (PCM) as knock sensor 1. The rear sensor (3) is known to the PCM as knock sensor 2.

  1. Perform the fuel pressure release procedure. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  3. Drain the cooling system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  4. Remove the air cleaner housing assembly, upper and lower intake manifolds and the oil filter housing. Refer to HOUSING, OIL FILTER, REMOVAL .
  5. Remove the electrical connector (4).
    NOTE:

    There may be a foam strip on the bolt threads. This foam is used only to retain the bolts to the sensors for plant assembly. It is not used as a sealant. Do not apply any adhesive, sealant or thread locking compound to these bolts.

  6. Remove the mounting bolt (2) and knock sensor 1 (1) or knock sensor 2 (3).
