Cover(S), Engine Timing: Removal

- Remove the engine covers.
- Perform the fuel pressure release procedure. Refer to FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE .
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.NOTE:
When the oil pan is removed, a new oil pan gasket and the integral windage tray assembly must be installed, the old gasket cannot be reused.
- Remove the oil pan. Refer to PAN, OIL .
- Remove the oil pump pickup tube retaining bolt and nut (1).
- Remove the oil pump pickup tube (2).
- Remove and discard the oil pan gasket/windage tray (3).
- Drain the engine coolant into a clean pan.
- Remove the lower radiator hose (2) at the water pump and position aside.
- Remove the heater hose at the water pump.
- Remove the lower fan shroud (2).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the A/C line support bracket.
- Separate the upper radiator hose (1) from the thermostat housing (3) and position aside.
- Remove the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector (2).
- Disconnect the camshaft position sensor electrical connector (1).
- Remove the water pump. Refer to PUMP, WATER, REMOVAL 5.7L/6.4L .
- Remove the idler pulley.NOTE:
It is not necessary to remove the power steering pump hoses for power steering pump removal.
- Remove the three power steering pump mounting bolts (2) through the access holes in the pulley (1).
- Remove the power steering pump from the engine and position aside.
- Remove the A/C compressor and position aside. Refer to COMPRESSOR, A/C, REMOVAL
.
- Remove the generator (1) from the front timing chain cover and position aside. Refer to GENERATOR, REMOVAL 6.4L
.NOTE:
When installing the puller tool, ensure the bolts are fully threaded through the entire crankshaft damper.
- Remove the vibration damper. Refer to DAMPER, VIBRATION, REMOVAL .
- Install the puller tool (2) making sure the bolts are fully threaded through the entire crankshaft damper and remove the crankshaft damper (1).
- Remove the engine timing cover retaining bolts and remove the engine timing cover.
- Verify that the engine timing cover slide bushings (1) remain located in the engine timing cover.
