Removal And Installation: Installation

CAUTION:
Propeller shaft installation is a two-person operation. Never allow propeller shaft to hang from the center bearing, or while only connected to the transmission or rear axle flanges. A helper is required. If a propeller shaft section is hung unsupported, damage may occur to the shaft, coupler, and center bearing from over-angulation. This may result in driveline vibrations or component failure.
- If removed, install the axleshaft actuator and tighten the fasteners to the proper specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Raise the RDU (1a) into position and tighten the two NEW
through fasteners (1b) to the proper specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the NEW front RDU mounting fastener (1) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Remove the hydraulic lift.
- Install a NEW
dust seal (1) on the pinion shaft of the RDU.
- Install a NEW
snap ring (1) in the propeller shaft.
- Connect the propeller shaft to the RDU pinion (1) and verify that the snap ring is seated in the groove on the pinion shaft.
- Position the new dust cover (1) over the propeller shaft rear joint.
- Install the propeller shaft center support fasteners (1) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Remove the propeller shaft support special tools.
- Remove the tape and the protective sleeve from the propeller shaft.
- Install the propeller shaft skid plate and tighten the fasteners.
- Connect the wiring harness connector to the differential actuator.NOTE:
If replacing the RDU, it is necessary to record the last two characters of the code in the area indicated (a) of the new RDU for performing the self learning procedure.
- When replacing the RDU, connect the diagnostic scan tool, enter Miscellaneous Functions of the DriveTrain Control Module (DTCM) and perform the self-learning procedure for the RDU.
- Check and correct the fluid level in the RDU. Refer to FLUID, DIFFERENTIAL, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Install the fasteners that attach the rear stabilizer bar to the rear crossmember. Refer to STABILIZER BAR, REAR SUSPENSION, INSTALLATION .
- Install the rear halfshafts. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Install the rear knuckles. Refer to KNUCKLE, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Install the rear tires and wheels. Refer to INSTALLATION .
- Install the muffler. Refer to MUFFLER, EXHAUST, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 1.3L or MUFFLER, EXHAUST, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 2.4L .
