Description And Operation
DESCRIPTION
The power seat system can consist of the following components:
| 1. | Refer to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) . |
| 2. | Refer to POWER SEAT MOTOR Up/Down. |
| 3. | Refer to POWER SEAT MOTOR Fore/Aft. |
| 4. | Refer to POWER SEAT MOTOR Lumbar. |
| 5. | Refer to POWER SEAT MOTOR Seat Back. |
| 6. | Refer to POWER SEAT SWITCHES . |
| 7. | Refer to POWER LUMBAR SWITCH . |
OPERATION
| Refer to COMPONENT INDEX . |
The BCM manages the power seat relays in the Power Distribution Center (PDC).
The BCM receives a direct power supply from the battery through the line protected by a maxi fuse in the PDC.
The relay switch is powered by a timed allowance managed by the BCM programming.
The BCM supplies power to the seat switches.
| Refer to COMPONENT INDEX . |
A separate switch and motor adjusts the backrest lumbar setting. Only the driver seat can be equipped with an electrically adjustable lumbar support device. Lumbar adjustment allows the backrest support to be altered to improve comfort. power is provided to the lumbar switch from the PDC
Electric adjustment is only possible with the ignition key turned to ON and for approximately 30 minutes after turning it to STOP. The BCM will manage the activation of the specific seat adjustment relays located in the PDC and from here to the two switches for seats adjustment and lumbar adjustment. The two switches will directly supply the seat actuators according to the requests of the driver and passenger. After key OFF the switches are still supplied for about 30 minutes. The power supply will stop after 30 minutes. The 30 minute power supply will be available again if one of the following events occurs:
- Door lock/unlock
- Door opening/locking
- Roof light switching on
| Refer to COMPONENT INDEX . |
When the lumbar control switch is actuated:
- a battery feed and a ground path are applied through the switch contacts to the power lumbar support adjuster motor.
- the lumbar support adjuster motor operates the lumbar support adjuster mechanism through its drive unit in the selected direction until the switch is released, or until the travel limit of the adjuster is reached.
- when the switch is moved in the opposite direction, the battery feed and ground path to the motor are reversed through the switch contacts. This causes the power lumbar support adjuster motor to run in the opposite direction.
The lumbar control switch should NOT be held applied in any direction after the adjuster has reached its travel limit. The power lumbar support adjuster motor contains a self-resetting circuit breaker to protect it from overload. However, consecutive or frequent resetting of the circuit breaker may result in motor damage.
The lumbar control switch cannot be adjusted or repaired and must be replaced if damaged or inoperative.
| Refer to COMPONENT INDEX . |
Power is provided to the seat adjuster switch from the PDC.
The two seat switches located on each seat can be used to adjust three different positions of the seat, specifically:
- Front seat height adjustment
- Backrest adjustment
- Seat lengthwise movement
The two switches will directly supply to and control the seat motors.
