Engine Controls - Oxygen Sensor Codes

SOURCE: KIA Technician Times Volume 5 Issue 4, 2002

TITLE: Oxygen Sensor Codes

APPLIES TO: Sedona

SERVICE TIP:

To eliminate the possibility of false codes P0139 and P0159 (rear O2 sensor response time), the ECM logic for these codes has been revised. Should you encounter one or both of these codes on an '02 Sedona with no other problems found, check the production date of the vehicle. If the vehicle was built before 11/19/01 and the ECM has not been updated for cold start hesitation, reflash the ECM per Technical Service Bulletin Volume 2, Engine 005. The reflash includes the logic change for the O2 sensor related DTCs mentioned above. If the update has already been done, diagnose the codes using the normal procedure in the Sedona Service Manual.
