SERVICE INFORMATION

This bulletin provides information relating to an update for the Kia Universal Multimedia Interface Tester (MIT) Kit. The MIT has been updated for improved compatibility with Kia's new audio technology. Update your dealership's Multi-Media Interface Tester (MIT) with the included kit.

The MIT Update Kit contains;

Follow the procedure outlined below to perform the MIT update.

FIRMWARE DOWNLOAD

  1. Access kdealer.com and open KGIS. Go to the top navigation menu and click on Diagnostic Tools > Software Downloads  .

  2. Click on Multi-Media Interface Tester (MIT) Firmware update V2.0 Update.

  3. Click OK  to continue.

  4. When prompted, place the MIT in update mode by connecting the MIT to PC's USB port while holding down the PAIR/CALL button. Release PAIR/CALL button and wait for (Step 1 of 3) to complete.
    NOTE: Continue holding PAIR/CALL button until instructed to release.

  5. While holding down TEST SELECTOR  button on MIT, click OK  (Step 2 of 3).

  6. The MIT files will begin updating immediately and the USB  light will flash (Step 3 of 3).
    NOTE: The Download will take approximately ten (10) minutes to complete.

  7. When update is complete, unplug the MIT from USB port. The reprogramming event is complete

NOTE: Plug the MIT into the vehicle's USB port; the unit will run through a 12 second initiation phase which will illuminate the AUX, Bluetooth and USB LEDs simultaneously.

UPDATED 12 VOLT POWER ADAPTER/CABLE AND USER MATERIALS

  1. Replace the updated 12 Volt Power Adapter/Cable and Insert Quick Reference Guide V2.0 in the Multi-Media Interface Tester case (discard old 12 Volt Power Adapter and Quick Reference Guide V1.0).

  2. Replace Quick Reference Label on back of MIT.
    1. Clean the surface of the existing reference label with Isopropyl Alcohol and allow for appropriate drying time.
    2. Apply the updated Quick Reference Label on top of the existing Quick Reference Label.
    3. Use a plastic spreader to ensure proper adhesion of the label.
      NOTE: The adhesive on the label contains micro-beads of accelerator. Therefore, rub the entire area of the label with the spreader to ensure proper adhesion.

MULTI-MEDIA INTERFACE TESTER INSTRUCTIONS

The 07130-10100 Kia Multi-Media Interface Tester (MIT) was developed to test a vehicle's audio input and Bluetooth® functions. The MIT outputs three distinct audio files to test the AUX/Line-In, Bluetooth, and USB functions of the audio system. The operation of each function is confirmed by the technician via these recordings played back through the vehicle's audio system.

POWER CABLE CONNECTION

  1. Connect the updated 12 Volt Power Adapter/Cable to the MIT USB connection.

TESTING THE AUX/LINE-IN FUNCTION

Setup: 

  1. Connect the 12-Volt Power Adapter/Cable to the accessories power port.
  2. Connect the AUX and USB cables from the MIT to the AUX/USB/IPOD Port on the vehicle.
  3. Press and release the TEST SELECTOR  button until the MIT AUX  LED illuminates.
  4. Vehicle should default to AUX  input. Audio playback confirms that the audio input jack test is working correctly.
    NOTE: Volume levels may vary depending on vehicle's audio system.

TESTING THE USB FUNCTION

  1. Connect the 12 Volt Power Adapter/Cable to the accessories power port.
  2. Connect the AUX and USB cables from the MIT to the AUX/USB/IPOD Port on the vehicle.
  3. Press and release the TEST SELECTOR  button until the MIT's USB  LED illuminates.
  4. Vehicle should default to USB input. Audio playback confirms that the USB input test is working correctly.
    NOTE: Volume levels may vary depending on vehicle's audio system.

TESTING THE BLUETOOTH® SYSTEM FUNCTION (INCLUDING BLUETOOTH® PAIRING AND CONNECTIVITY OF THE AUDIO SYSTEM)

Setup: 

  1. Connect the 12 Volt Power Adapter/Cable to the accessories power port.
  2. Press and release the TEST SELECTOR  button until the MIT's Bluetooth  ® LED illuminates.
  3. Set the Audio system to Bluetooth® pairing mode. Refer to the vehicle owner's manual, if necessary.

BLUETOOTH® PAIRING (PASSKEY 0000)

  1. Press and release PAIR/CALL  button.
  2. When all 3 LEDs flash, press and release PAIR/CALL  button.

PERFORMING A TEST-CALL

  1. Confirm pairing is complete (Bluetooth  ® LED will be in a quick flash mode). If Bluetooth  ® LED is not in quick flash mode (solid light), press and release PAIR/CALL button to enable quick flash mode.
  2. Press and release PAIR/CALL  button to test Bluetooth® functionality.
  3. Use the vehicle controls to answer the call. After recording confirms a "working" Bluetooth® system, use the vehicle controls to end the call.

    NOTE:
    • Some audio units may need the MIT set as "Priority 1" for the test-call to complete.
    • To perform another test-call, repeat steps  2 &  3. The MIT will remain paired after the call is ended. Place the MIT in Bluetooth mode and press and release the Pair button to re-connect.
    • When re-testing the Bluetooth pairing capability with the same audio head unit, the MIT must be reset by disconnecting the USB power cable and reconnecting.
    NOTE: When testing is complete, delete MIT from the audio system before returning the vehicle to the customer.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
