Boost Pressure Sensor (BPS): Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2014 Kia Optima. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Boost Pressure Sensor (BPS) is installed on the intercooler assembly and measures the pressure of the compressed air in turbocharger.

The BPS consists of a piezo-electric element and a hybrid IC amplifying the element output signal.

The element is silicon diaphragm type and adapts pressure sensitive variable resistor effect of semi-conductor. Because 100% vacuum and the turbocharger pressure apply to both sides of the sensor respectively, this sensor can output analog signal by using the silicon variation proportional to pressure change.
