SERVICE INFORMATION
ATTENTION: TECHNICIANS & SERVICE MANAGERS!
This Pitstop provides information regarding best practices when performing a reflash/reprogramming of any electronic control module.
- Read/Review the TSB since not all reflash procedures are the same.
- Confirm the KDS is charged to at least 60% , with older units the battery can deplete quickly during the procedure if the proper charge was not maintanined at the start of the reflash. Tablets with fialing batteries should not be used and promptly replaced .
- Add a battery charger to maintain constant voltage during the reflash or use a fully charged jump box to maintain consistent battery voltage during the reflash.
- Turn off all electrical components ; Windshield Wipers, Seat Heaters, Ventilated Seats, Heater/AC units and Audio Systems unless otherwise directed by the TSB.
- Always use the correct ROM event for Model and Model Year.
- Do not attempt to start the engine or turn the ignition OFF during the reflash.
NOTE:
Failure to follow basic steps can result in reflash failures and may result in a chargeback of your Warranty claim. Some control units are expensive, extreme care must be taken to avoid any damage.
NOTE:
- Confirm a fully charged battery with 12.3 volts or higher is necessary or the use of a fully charged jump starter box connected to the battery.
- Ensure the KDS GDS is sufficiently charged at 60% or higher prior to reflash.
- All ECU upgrades must be done with the ignition key in the 'ON' position unless otherwise stated.
- Be careful not to disconnect the VCI-II connected to the vehicle during the ECU upgrade procedure.
- DO NOT start the engine during ECU upgrade.
- DO NOT turn the ignition key 'OFF' or interrupt the power supply during ECU upgrade.
- When the ECU upgrade is completed, turn the ignition 'OFF' and wait 10 seconds before starting the engine.
- ONLY use approved ECU upgrade software designated for the correct application.
