Emergency Key Access
Emergency Key Access (EKA) allows anti-theft system to be disarmed and engine to be mobilized when a remote transmitter malfunctions. EKA requires that a 4-digit code be entered using the key and the driver's door lock. The 4-digit code is either a number assigned to the vehicle and found on the security information card or a default number obtainable from the manufacturer. With vehicle locked, alarm system armed, and key inserted in driver's door lock cylinder, turn key as specified (key must be fully turned to rest and lock/unlock position each time):
- Unlock driver's door and open door. Alarm horn should sound 2 times. If key is inserted into ignition switch and an engine start is attempted, the engine should not crank and instrument panel message center will display ENGINE DISABLED PRESS REMOTE OR USE KEY CODE.
- Close driver's door and ensure all doors, tailgate and hood are closed. If vehicle had been locked using the remote transmitter, insert key into driver's door lock and turn to lock position one time. If vehicle had not been locked using the remote transmitter, insert key into driver's door lock and turn to lock position 4 times.
- As key is turned to lock or unlock position, the turn signal indicators will flash to indicate that key turn was recognized. If the first digit is 2, turn and release the key 2 times to the unlock position.
- To enter second digit, turn and release the key the required number of times to lock position.
- To enter third digit, turn and release the key the required number of times to unlock position.
- To enter fourth digit, turn and release the key the required number of times to lock position.
- Turn key to the unlock position. If the EKA code has been entered correctly, the doors and tailgate will be unlocked and the alarm will be partially disarmed. Anti-theft LED will continue to flash in deterrent mode, indicating that if hood is opened alarm will be triggered.
If procedure has been performed incorrectly, on the final unlock turn of the key, a mislock will be indicated and system will remain locked and armed. If vehicle had been locked using the remote transmitter, after 5 unsuccessful attempts, there will be a 10-minute lockout time period.
If vehicle had not been locked using the remote transmitter, after 3 unsuccessful attempts, there will be a 30-minute lockout time period. Any attempt to enter an EKA code will cause a mislock to sound. During the lockout period, the instrument panel message center will display KEY CODE LOCKOUT.
