Steering Column Assembly & Lock: Removal

- Remove steering column intermediate shaft. See SHAFT - INTERMEDIATE & UNIVERSAL JOINT - STEERING COLUMN .
- Remove rotary coupler:
- For 1999 models, see ROTARY COUPLER .
- For 2000 models, see ROTARY COUPLER (CLOCKSPRING) .
- For 2001 models, see ROTARY COUPLER (CLOCKSPRING) .
- For 2002 models, see ROTARY COUPLER (CLOCKSPRING) .
- For 2003 models, see ROTARY COUPLER (CLOCKSPRING) .
- For 2004 models, see ROTARY COUPLER (CLOCKSPRING) .
- Open fascia lower access panel.
- Remove steering column nacelle. See NACELLE - STEERING COLUMN .
- Disconnect multiplug and illumination bulb from passive coil and remove passive coil. See Fig 1.
- Disconnect 2 multiplugs from wiper switch assembly. See Fig 2.
- Disconnect 2 multiplugs from light switch assembly.
- Loosen screw and remove switch assembly. See Fig 3.
- Disconnect ignition switch multiplug.
- Disconnect multiplug from ignition switch housing. See Fig 4.
- Release harness from column clip. See Fig 5.
- Remove 4 nuts securing steering column assembly to fascia rail and remove steering column assembly.
- Remove rubber boot from steering column assembly. See Fig 6.
- Position steering column assembly in a vice. See Fig 7.
- Remove 2 screws and remove ignition switch.
- Remove cable tie and remove multiplug from ignition switch.
- Centre punch or drill out steering lock shear bolts.
- Remove steering lock.
