Preliminary Inspection

Perform a comprehensive visual inspection of components which could create an ABS malfunction.

  1. Visually inspect all ABS relays and fuses located in engine compartment fuse box. Check ABS relay, maxi-fuses No. 8 (50-amp) and No. 11 (30-amp), and fuse No. 11 (30-amp).
  2. Visually inspect all ABS relays and fuses located in passenger compartment fuse box. Check hill descent relay and fuses No. 25 (25-amp), No. 27 (10-amp), and No. 28 (10-amp).
  3. Check wiring and connectors. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Check ABS system grounds. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  .
  4. Ensure battery is fully charged and terminal connections are clean and tight. Ensure charging system is operating properly.
  5. Check brakelines and hoses for correct routing and for leaks. See Figure .
  6. Ensure wheel speed sensors are clean and properly installed, and that connectors are clean and tight.
