Centering Steering Wheel: Discovery

  1. Raise and support vehicle. See JACKING & HOISTING . Using a Ball Joint Separator (LRT-57-018), disconnect drag link at pitman arm. Locate notch at shaft end of pitman arm. Using a 5/16" (8 mm) pin, line up notch in pitman arm with hole in power steering box housing. Remove pin and note position of steering wheel.
  2. On left-hand drive vehicles, if steering wheel is to the right, drag link is too short. If steering wheel is to the left, drag link is too long. Loosen drag link adjuster sleeve clamps and turn sleeve until steering wheel is straight. Tighten adjusting sleeve clamp bolts to 124 INCH lbs. (14 N.m). Test drive vehicle and recheck.
