NOTE: The Freelander VIN series are progressing in a downward direction. This means that 300,000 series vehicles have been manufactured before 200,000 series vehicles.

SITUATION

COOLING FAN CONTROL UNIT NOT OPERATING CORRECTLY

The customer may complain about overheating symptoms, or that cooling fans appear to be operating continuously.

RESOLUTION

VERIFY COOLING FAN CONTROL UNIT OPERATION AND REPLACE IF INDICATED

Conduct the test verification of fan control unit operation outlined in this bulletin. If indicated by those tests, replace the control unit with the Part Number specified in PARTS INFORMATION  .

NOTE: Part Number PGW000011 has not yet been added to the "Microcat" electronic parts catalog system. This component is the ONLY part that can be used as a fan controller replacement on North American Specification Freelander vehicles.

26.25.43 Install cooling fan control unit if 0.30 hrs.

FAULT CODE: D

Normal warranty policy and procedures apply.

Material allowance is included in labor operation.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

  1. Disconnect the cooling fan multi-plugs.
  2. Thoroughly clean the multi-plug connectors.
  3. Connect the cooling fan multi-plugs.
  4. Ensure the cooling fans are operating at slow speed by starting the engine and switching on the A/C.
  5. Connect TestBook/T4 to the vehicle and load disc DRGTL23 or a later version.
  6. Follow the on screen instructions and select 'System Diagnostic'.
  7. Follow the on screen instructions and select 'Engine Management'.
  8. Follow the on screen instructions and select 'Force Output'.
  9. Follow the on screen instructions and select 'Cooling Fan'.
    NOTE: Forced fan speed output for NAS specification vehicles are a multiple speed test.
  10. Follow the 'Force Output' screen prompts.
  11. If the cooling fans do not operate during any of the tests detailed above, refer to RAVE Workshop Manual section 26.25.43 and replace the fan controller (PGW000011).
